Beginning Math Skills Levels One and Two provide a hierarchy of worksheets which enable learners to gain the component skills needed to process math with flexibility and computational fluency.  Both levels provide materials to assess a learner’s skill inventory; the results can then be used to facilitate both individualized instruction and optimized practice based on the learner’s strengths and needs. Beginning Math Skills Levels One and Two provide worksheets to help learners gain the component skills needed to process math with flexibility and computational fluency. Fluency in Beginning Math Skills assures learners will more readily acquire basic math facts, computation skills, mental math, and problem-solving skills.

Counting in sequence strengthens a learner’s memory and enhances sequential thinking. Learners begin to generalize and categorize patterns when they learn to count.

Writing digits fluently is a crucial foundation skill and the primary output for many areas of mathematics. The ability to fluently read and write numbers, identify numbers and sequences, count groups of objects, and count numbers in sequence, allows learners to use relationships between symbols, words, and their values.

Furthermore, these skills are necessary for everyday tasks, such as maintaining a budget, baking and cooking, time management, home improvement, health and fitness and many more. Building a strong math foundation prepares learners to readily acquire more sophisticated math skills without being overloaded by basic math facts and simple computations.

The units are designed to be employed in timed practice sessions which develop mastery, defined by both accuracy and rates of response, geared to aims developed and tested through decades of use.  Each practice session is paired with immediate feedback on the learner’s performance via Precision Teaching, an evidence-based intervention technique which applies behavioral science to learning. A fundamental tenant of PT is that the learner knows best, and by extension, the data knows the learner.  Timing results are recorded and immediately shared with the learner.  If the learner struggles the teacher provides assistance in the form of further practice of the challenging elements, and then gives the learner the choice of passing on to another activity or trying to improve on past results.

The result of each practice is recorded on a Standard Celeration Chart which guides the teacher’s insights into the learners learning trend and the timing of adjustments that will maximize the learner’s progress. Precision teaching has been used successfully to teach learners ranging from the severely disabled to university graduate learners.
